To everyone who came along and made Mas so fantastic, from all of the organisers. You guys truly made our night! We had an awesome time due to the response from you all. We honestly weren't expecting anywhere near as many people to show up at such a new club, in such an obscure venue. The night was a huge success and we're very much looking forward to the next one! :-)

Which is where we would like your help again! Do you have photos from your night at Mas? Do you have a story to tell? Do you have any suggestions about how we can improve it for next time? Please let us know, either here or (ideally) on the Forum what you enjoyed about your night at Mas, and what you think we could do better in future. :-)

Some improvement ideas we're already bandying around:

*More and better signage. We know that several of you had difficulty finding the venue, due to a lack of decent directions. One problem occurred when our first sign at the front of the main entrance was defaced, making it difficult for people to find the next sign along. We already have plans in the pipeline for improving this situation, but we'd love your suggestions too!

*More people on the bar. We honestly were not expecting so many people to show up, so only had minimal bar staff. Next time we hope to have more of them, and we may even open up the second room, which also has a bar in it. :-)

*Music styles. This is an interesting one! Everyone who was into a specific genre of music told us at one point or another that their genre should have been better represented and/or in the main set slot (11pm - 12am). ;-) Obviously with such a diverse music policy we're never going to please everyone every time, but we are thinking about making each slot a little more diverse. We're also very open to having people in to DJ guest slots, so if there's a style of music that you feel is under-represented please do come and DJ for us! The set-up is easy to use and we'd be happy to give any newbies a tutorial and/or support during their set. What we may end up doing in the future is having themed nights where we'll still be diverse, but within slightly tighter genre boundaries.

*Better decor. This time around we were fairly light on extra decoration, just covering the most obvious football-related stuff in the main room. Next Mas will probably also be fairly low-key in this respect, but we have big plans for the Halloween one! That said, if anyone would like to turn their creative hands to making our club look more like a den of Alternative coolness, rather than a football club room, we'd love to hear from you!

*A cloakroom. I hate not having one of these and I can't believe I didn't even think about it when we were all putting the club together. Luckily Friday was warm, but as we move into Autumn and Winter, we do plan on having somewhere to store your coats. If anyone would be willing to volunteer to do an hour in the cloakroom in exchange for free entry (and probably a free pint too) do let us know. ;-)

I have song lists for mine and Amy's sets, but haven't had ones from Lee or Phil yet. Erik didn't write down (or remember) what he was playing, although I know it was mostly classic Brit-Punk... I'll put all the set lists up together once I've got as much info as I can get. :-)

The next Mas will be Friday 14th September. We're very much looking forward to seeing you all again then! :-)

So, for those of you unlucky enough to miss the six gorgeous girls wearing next to nothing doing our promo duties over the weekend (pictures to follow shortly) here is the cyberspace invite to the best club in Cambridge this summer:

Clicky for Myspace!

For those of you who are allergic to Myspace (and really, who can blame you?!) here is the information you need:

Mas is:
* Monthly on a Friday night.
* A place to dress your best, to see and be seen.
* A true Alternative club night for every type of Rocker, Metaller, Goth and Punk out there, as well as all you other fabulous 'freaks' and wonderful 'weirdos'!
* Strictly over 18 only (ROAR).
* Only £3 entry!

Mas is not:
* Yet another Cambridge 'Indie' night.
* Just a place for those who only wish to carry on drinking after the pubs have closed.
* Cliquey or 'exclusive'.

The first Mas will be held this Friday 10th August from 9pm until 2am in the function rooms of the Cambridge United Football Club on Newmarket Road. A map, directions and more information about Cambridge United can be found here and here. Please note than the bar is open until 1am and this is a non-smoking venue, although we do have a smoking area outside for you.

We have re-jigged the set list a little thanks to the suggestions of others. Currently, the kinds of music you might expect to hear at certain times are:

9pm - 10pm Alixandrea's Goth Set:
Siouxie and the Banshees, Sisters of Mercy, Merry Thoughts, Nick Cave, Type O Negative, Within Temptation, Mesh, Delirium, Rome Burns, Screaming Banshee Aircrew, Killing Joke...

10pm - 11pm Erik's Punk & Ska Set:
New Model Army, Slaughter and the Dogs, Misfits, Sex Pistols, Madness, The Specials, The Police, Dead Kennedys, Toy Dolls, The Vibrators, Iggy, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry, The Clash...

11pm - 12am Amy's Nostalgic Melodic Rock Set:
Nojahoda, Offspring, Skunk Anansie, Cranberries, Deftones, System of a Down, Flyleaf, Lacuna Coil, Lit, Eels, A Perfect Circle, My Own Summer, Lacuna Coil...

12am - 1am Phil's Industrial & Metal Set:
Megadeth, White Zombie, Marilyn Manson, Pantera, Gutworm, Fear Factory, Ministry, Mortiis, Drowning Pool, Rocket From The Crypt, KMFDM...

1am - 2am Lee's Thrash & Hardcore Metal Set:
Exodus, Anthrax, Kreator, Devil Driver, Nuclear Assault, Send More Paramedics, Carcass, Napalm Death...

Of course, this list is by no means exhaustive - just some of the top bands that each of the DJs are hoping to play some music from on the first night. If you have anything you would like to hear, please do get in touch to let us know what your favourite tunes are. If we have them, we promise to do our very best to play them. Alternatively if you would like to DJ at a future Mas please also let us know, as we're always on the lookout for people willing to share their awesome record collections with us!

Need more reasons to come along? How about:

* Cheap drinks! £2.80 Guinness, £2 can Strongbow, various other beers on special offer.
* Anyone going for a drink in the King Street Run beforehand who is coming to the club will receive a ticket that entitles them to a free black or white Sambuca when they get to the club. Please note that this offer is on a first come, first served basis as we only have so much Sambuca!
*Prefer your beer a bit smoother than the average lager? We can oblige as the bar stocks Marstons Smooth, an easy drinking beer with a "truly distinctive and full flavoured taste".

We also have a Mas Forum if you would like to discuss the club, make suggestions, volunteer for anything, post photos to prove how great your night was and generally chat. :-)

We all look forward to seeing you this Friday!

Please check out Impaler Prince.
On the dowloads page there is a link to three full, downloadable (imagine that) songs.
And if anyone is interested and patient..... well.. shop'll be set up soon.

Think Marduk meets Falkenbach meets Immortal w/ a faint hint of Cradle, though really I find him more than that.

I'm Kim Mouse and I do like melodic metal! I swoon to the sounds of OPETH, Tristania, Theatre of Tragedy, The Gathering and others. Unfortunately the last three of these bands I have not seen live yet. Don't know when they will come to the US and if they have, I must have missed it.
Other stuff about me that I think you might be interested in. I'm a jewelry designer and have started my own company not too long ago called Devil and Mouse. I make 100% handcrafted Evil and darkly flavoured jewelry with a specialty in Coffin shaped pendants and charms. See some at:www.devilandmouse.com

CHAOSWAVE, an impressive band in balance between aggressive guitars, bass, drums and atmospheric vocal lines. While the music is repeatedly made aggressive with the help of the guitars 7th string, the atmosphere is achieved through the shared vocal lines of Fabio and Giorgia. All along the bass and drums are working together to keep the music 'in-your-face'.

Any fans of female-fronted metal such as AFTER FOREVER, ARCH ENEMY, LACUNA COIL, FLOWING TEARS, THE GATHERING and KITTIE should give this band a look. They're experienced musicians and may get very big.

I think they're one of those very, very rare bands who combine traditional metal virtues such as genuinely heavy riffing and solos with a more accessible, modern approach to metal. The fact I'd recommend them to fans of so many musically different bands shows their diversity. Give them a try, they've got a lot of good reviews :D
